Anniversary Workshop:- About Garnet | GhNOG Workshop

Who We Are

The Ghana Network Operators Group (GhNOG) is a professional community dedicated to building technical capacity, fostering collaboration, and advancing Internet infrastructure and cybersecurity in Ghana and across Africa. Established in 2009, GhNOG was born out of the Africa Network Operators Group (AfNOG) E0 Localization Program, spearheaded by the Internet Society (ISOC) Ghana Chapter in partnership with AfNOG.

From our first workshop at the University of Cape Coast, GhNOG has evolved into a recognized platform where network operators, engineers, system administrators, researchers, and policymakers come together to learn, share, and innovate.

Our Mission

To strengthen Ghana’s Internet ecosystem by providing high-quality technical training, promoting industry best practices, and fostering a collaborative community for Internet development.

Our Work

GhNOG is best known for its hands-on technical workshops and annual meetings, which cover critical areas such as:

  • Scalable Network Infrastructure
  • Network Monitoring & Management
  • Unix/Linux System Administration
  • Computer Security Incident Response Team (CSIRT) Training
  • DNS Operations and Security (DNSSEC)
  • Emergency Telecommunications Preparedness

These events bring together stakeholders from academia, government, industry, and civil society to address pressing challenges in Internet operations and cybersecurity.

Our Journey

Over the years, GhNOG has:

  • Hosted nine national workshops in institutions such as University of Cape Coast, Ghana Telecom University, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science & Technology, University of Professional Studies, Central University, Koforidua Technical University and University for Development Studies.
  • Trained hundreds of network professionals, including trainers who now support other African NOGs.
  • Partnered with global and regional organizations such as ISOC, AfNOG, IETF, and NSRC to deliver world-class training in Ghana.

After a period of inactivity post-2015 due to funding and leadership challenges, GhNOG is now re-launched as a fully autonomous body with clear governance structures, cost-recovery models, and renewed community engagement.

Our Future

As we mark the 30th Anniversary of the Internet in Ghana in 2025, GhNOG is focused on:

  • Expanding training to cover emerging technologies and cybersecurity readiness.
  • Building regional workshops to ensure nationwide access to capacity-building programs.
  • Strengthening collaborations with local and international partners to ensure sustainable impact.
